Torsion or extension, and why it matters
Torsion springs mount on a steel shaft above the opening and twist to store energy. Extension springs run along the horizontal tracks either side and stretch. Torsion is the better system: it balances the door more evenly, lasts longer and fails less violently. Extension springs are common on older and low-headroom installations, and if yours do not have safety cables running through them, that is a genuine hazard we will flag.
