Installation: the short version

An installed garage door starts at $899 and most Connecticut homes land between $1,200 and $2,600 depending on size, insulation and whether the opening needs work. That includes the measure, the door, the fitting, and hauling the old one away.

In this climate insulation is the decision worth spending time on. An R-12 to R-18 insulated steel door is quieter, noticeably warmer in an attached garage, and holds its shape better through a New England freeze-thaw cycle than a bare single-skin door.

New Door Installation, done properly

Steel, insulated steel, carriage house, full-view aluminum and wood. We measure the opening, talk through R-value and wind load for a New England winter, haul the old door away, and set the new one square.

  • Free in-home measure and quote
  • Insulated options built for CT winters
  • Old door removal and disposal included

Measuring properly matters more than the door you pick

We measure the opening width and height, the headroom above the opening, the side room either side, and the backroom into the garage. Those four numbers determine the track type and whether a standard lift will work at all. A lot of older Connecticut garages need low-headroom or high-lift track, and that has to be established before an order goes in, not after.

Insulation, in a climate that justifies it

R-value is worth paying for here. A single-skin steel door has essentially no insulation value. A polystyrene core gets you into the R-6 to R-9 range, and polyurethane injected between two steel skins reaches R-12 to R-18 while also making the door dramatically more rigid and considerably quieter. If the garage is attached, or finished, or you work in it, the polyurethane door pays for itself.

Styles that suit the housing here

Raised-panel steel is the safe default and looks right on most post-war housing. Carriage-house with an applied overlay is what we fit in Old Wethersfield, Farmington village and the Cheney district, because it reads as period-correct while behaving like modern steel. Full-view aluminum and glass suits newer contemporary builds. Real wood looks beautiful and swells every summer, which we will always say out loud before you order it.

What the installation day involves

The old door and track come out and go on the truck. The opening gets checked for square and the jambs for rot before anything new touches it. New track, new hardware, correctly sized springs for the actual weight of the new door, and a full safety test before we leave. Most single-door installations are a half day.

Why MasterLift

Six reasons people call us back

Garage door work attracts a lot of cowboys. Here is how we run things differently.

We show up when we say

Two-hour arrival windows, a text when the tech leaves the previous job, and a call if traffic on 84 puts us behind. You should not have to burn a day off waiting.

The price you hear is the price you pay

We diagnose, we quote, you decide. No trip charge on repairs we complete, no surprise line items, and no invented problems on the invoice.

Licensed, insured, and vetted

Every technician carries CT credentials, full liability cover, and a background check. You get a name and a photo before anyone knocks.

Parts we would put on our own house

High-cycle springs, sealed-bearing rollers, name-brand openers. Cheap parts fail in a New England winter and we would rather not come back.

Genuinely local to the Hartford area

We are not a call center routing you to whoever answers. The trucks run out of West Hartford and the dispatcher knows which streets flood after a nor'easter.

Someone answers at 2am

A door stuck open is a security problem, not a scheduling problem. Nights, Sundays, holidays — there is always a truck on call.

“Spring let go on a Tuesday morning with my car boxed in. I called at 07:20 and a tech named Marcus was in the driveway by 09:05. He replaced both springs, adjusted the opener force, and showed me the old ones. Price matched the phone quote exactly.”

“Third company I called. The first two wanted to sell me a whole new door for a bent track and a chewed roller. MasterLift straightened the track, swapped four rollers, and charged me a fraction. Door has been silent for eight months.”

★★★★★

“Our opener died the night before a 5am flight. They picked up at 23:40, had someone out by half midnight, and got the door closed so we could actually leave the house locked. Came back two days later with the replacement unit.”

AS Amrita S.
Farmington, CT · Emergency call
★★★★★

“Had them install an insulated steel door on a 1928 colonial where nothing is square. They shimmed the frame properly instead of forcing it, and the garage is noticeably warmer this winter. Cleaned up every scrap.”

TV Tom V.

★★★★★

“Straightforward people. Quoted $290 over the phone, charged $290. Explained why the cable frayed in the first place — a bad drum — and fixed that too without inflating the bill.”

RM Regina M.

★★★★★

“I manage six units in Manchester and they handle all of them now. Two-hour windows they actually keep, one invoice a month, and they flag things before they break instead of after.”
