The People Behind MasterLift
A West Hartford garage door company that would rather fix your door than sell you a new one. No showroom, no call center, no invented problems on the invoice.
- 30–60 min emergency response
- Licensed, insured, background-checked
- Upfront pricing before we start
- Warranty on parts and labor

Employees, not subcontractors
Everyone who turns up in a MasterLift shirt is on our payroll, background-checked, and covered by our liability and workers' compensation insurance. Nobody gets farmed out to whoever happened to be free that afternoon.
You get the technician's name and photo by text before they arrive, which matters more than people think if you are on your own at eleven at night wondering who is knocking on the side door.
MasterLift started with one van, one set of winding bars and a phone that rang at inconvenient hours. That has not changed as much as you might think. We have more trucks now and a dispatcher who answers instead of the owner's wife, but the job is still the same: somebody's door has stopped working and they need a straight answer about what it will cost to fix.
We work out of West Hartford and we do not have a showroom. That is deliberate. A showroom is rent, and rent shows up on your invoice whether you visited it or not. Instead the vans carry stock — torsion springs in the common sizes, cables, rollers, hinges, bottom brackets, photo-eyes, and the logic boards for the three opener brands that account for most of what is hanging in Connecticut garages. That is why we finish the majority of calls in one visit rather than booking a second one to bring a part.
What we actually believe about this trade
Garage door work has a reputation problem, and it is earned. The business model that causes it is simple: quote low on the phone, arrive, find something alarming, and sell a door. We hear about it constantly, usually as the second or third company somebody has called. Someone was told a bent track meant a new door. Someone was told a $40 photo-eye was a dead opener.
So here is our position, stated plainly enough that you can hold us to it. We will diagnose the fault before we quote. We will give you the price in writing before we touch anything. We will tell you when a repair is the better value even though a replacement pays us more. And if the honest answer is that your door has reached the end, we will show you why rather than asserting it.
The people who turn up
Every technician on the payroll is background-checked, carries Connecticut credentials, and works under our general liability and workers' compensation cover. Nobody is subcontracted out to whoever happened to be free. When you book, you get the technician's name and photo by text before they pull into the driveway, which matters if you are a woman on her own at eleven at night wondering who is knocking.
They also get trained on the boring stuff that separates a repair from a patch: how to read the wire gauge and inside diameter off a spring so the replacement is actually matched, how to check drum timing, how to test a safety reverse properly with a two-by-four rather than a hand wave. A door that is left correctly balanced puts far less strain on the opener, and openers that are not strained last years longer. Most of what we do to protect your money happens in the last fifteen minutes of the job.
Where we go
Eighty-nine towns inside a thirty-mile ring around West Hartford. That takes in the whole of greater Hartford, the Farmington Valley, central Connecticut down through Meriden and Wallingford, out west to Torrington and Litchfield, east into Tolland County, and north over the line into the Springfield area. We drew the boundary at thirty miles because past that we cannot honestly promise same-day, and we would rather turn a job down than break an arrival window.
A note about pricing
We publish our starting prices, which is uncommon in this trade and occasionally inconvenient for us. A spring replacement starts at $189, a cable job at $149, opener repair at $129. Real invoices land above those numbers when the door is heavier, when both springs need doing, when the drums are chewed, or when it is two in the morning on a holiday. But you will know the actual number before we start, and it will not move afterwards.
Six commitments, and you can hold us to all of them
None of this is complicated. It is just unusual enough in this trade to be worth writing down.
Show the old parts
Every part we remove gets shown to you and photographed for your file. If we say a spring was shot, you get to look at it.
Written price, first
Nothing gets touched before you have seen a number and agreed to it. No verbal estimates that grow.
Windows we keep
Two-hour arrival windows, a text when the tech leaves the last job, and a phone call if we are running late.
Repair before replace
We fix what can be fixed. Selling doors is not the business we are trying to be in.
Same faces
Employees, not subcontractors. Background-checked, and you get a name and photo before anyone arrives.
Warranty in writing
Parts and labor warranty on every job, lifetime warranty on springs we supply, emailed the same day.
Our technicians, our trucks, our work
Real jobs across greater Hartford. Marked vans, branded shirts, and a name and photo texted to you before anyone knocks.

What our customers say
5.0 out of 5 across 23 reviews on Google and Facebook. These are unedited.
“Spring let go on a Tuesday morning with my car boxed in. I called at 07:20 and a tech named Marcus was in the driveway by 09:05. He replaced both springs, adjusted the opener force, and showed me the old ones. Price matched the phone quote exactly.”
“Third company I called. The first two wanted to sell me a whole new door for a bent track and a chewed roller. MasterLift straightened the track, swapped four rollers, and charged me a fraction. Door has been silent for eight months.”
“Our opener died the night before a 5am flight. They picked up at 23:40, had someone out by half midnight, and got the door closed so we could actually leave the house locked. Came back two days later with the replacement unit.”
“Had them install an insulated steel door on a 1928 colonial where nothing is square. They shimmed the frame properly instead of forcing it, and the garage is noticeably warmer this winter. Cleaned up every scrap.”
“Straightforward people. Quoted $290 over the phone, charged $290. Explained why the cable frayed in the first place — a bad drum — and fixed that too without inflating the bill.”
“I manage six units in Manchester and they handle all of them now. Two-hour windows they actually keep, one invoice a month, and they flag things before they break instead of after.”
From your call to a working door
No mystery, no runaround. Four steps, and you know where you stand at every one of them.
You call or book online
Tell us what the door is doing. Most of the time we can name the likely fault on the phone and give you a realistic range before anyone drives out.
We arrive in a two-hour window
You get a text when the technician is on the way. The van carries springs, cables, rollers, and the common opener boards, so we are not sourcing parts mid-job.
Diagnosis and a written price
The tech walks the door, tests the balance and the safety reverse, and hands you a written price. Nothing gets touched until you say go.
Fixed, tested, cleaned up
We finish the repair, cycle the door, re-check the balance and photo-eyes, and take the old parts with us. Then the warranty paperwork lands in your inbox.
